S&j ensuite
This ensuite renovation was designed with both long-term family enjoyment and future market appeal in mind. Whether the family decides to settle in or eventually sell, the space now serves as a serene retreat, enhancing the overall value and allure of their home. The perfect final piece to complete their renovation journey.
INITIAL CONCEPT
The client had recently renovated their children's bathroom and was thoroughly pleased with the outcome. The goal was to maintain cohesion with the existing bathroom while introducing subtle elements of flair and luxury. I recommended a simple, budget-friendly way to introduce unique touches that still aligned with the home's overall aesthetic, such as an above-counter concrete basin, an open shower with a half nib wall, and a statement feature tile.
FINAL ROOM DESIGN
Taking into consideration my client’s preference for certain local suppliers I was able to suggest products they can actually see and touch in real life. This was a nonnegotiable as they didn’t want to order online. As a designer its important to consider not only the aesthetics and functionality of a space, but also accessibility to suppliers and products.
THE NIB WALL
A half-nib pony wall creates a built-in ledge, or shelf, within the shower to hold shampoo bottles, loofahs, and other bathing essentials. Unlike full height walls, a half-height ‘nib’ or ‘pony’ wall allows natural light and air to flow more freely into the shower area, making the bathroom feel brighter and more open. Furthermore, it requires less cleaning than a full glass panel; it’s the perfect happy medium.
FULL GLASS PANEL
The unobstructed, transparent surface of glass creates a visual illusion of more space, making smaller bathrooms feel larger and more open. This is particularly important in a bathroom with minimum natural light. Glass panels allow the beauty of the bathroom's tile work and fixtures to be seen, enhancing the overall design of the space. The downfall is that glass can be difficult to keep clean especially in areas with more hard water.
